Flame Retardant Softshell PPE Jacket

A flame retardant softshell jacket is a type of protective clothing designed to resist ignition and limit the spread of fire. It is classified as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and is used in environments where there is a risk of exposure to flames or extreme heat, such as in the metalworking, petrochemical or industrial maintenance industries. This type of jacket combines the lightness and flexibility of softshell material with thermal protection textile technologies, providing comfort, freedom of movement and safety. RAG Tailors offers flame retardant softshell jackets that combine innovation, quality and compliance with the most demanding European standards.

Flame retardant softshell jackets must comply with several European safety standards, particularly those relating to PPE for thermal protection. Among the most important are EN ISO 14116 (limited resistance to flame propagation), EN ISO 11612 (protection against heat and flame) and EN 1149-5 (electrostatic properties). These standards ensure that the garment offers effective protection in environments with a risk of fire or explosion. RAG Tailors models are manufactured based on these standards and tested to ensure maximum performance and safety for professional users.

A flame retardant softshell jacket stands out for its technical and functional properties. It features multi-flame resistant fabrics, ergonomic design, breathability and moderate waterproofing, making it ideal for environments with thermal risks but where comfort is also essential. This jacket offers protection against direct flames, convective and radiant heat, while allowing freedom of movement. RAG Tailors models stand out for their durability, abrasion resistance and the possibility of personalization with embroidery or printing for corporate identity.

Proper maintenance of a flame retardant softshell jacket is essential to preserve its protective properties. Always follow the instructions on the inside label. It is generally recommended to wash at low temperatures (max 40°C), use neutral detergent and avoid the use of bleach or fabric softeners, as these can compromise the retardant treatments. Air drying is preferable and the use of a tumble dryer should be avoided unless otherwise indicated by the manufacturer. RAG Tailors recommends careful maintenance to ensure the long-lasting performance of its protective garments.

The difference between flame retardant and fire resistant clothing lies in the way they react to heat. Flame retardant fabrics are manufactured or treated to delay ignition and prevent the spread of flames when exposed to fire. Fire resistant fabrics may not burn, but they can melt or transfer heat to the skin. Flame retardant clothing is best suited as PPE because it minimizes the risk of serious burns. RAG Tailors’ softshell jackets are certified as flame retardant, ensuring high thermal protection combined with the comfort needed for everyday work.

The use of flame retardant softshell jackets is mandatory or recommended in professional environments with risks of thermal exposure, such as industrial areas with welding, foundries, oil rigs, power plants or maintenance of high voltage electrical systems. In these contexts, the appropriate PPE not only protects against accidents, but is also a legal requirement and good occupational safety practices. The models offered by RAG Tailors have been designed to meet the needs of these sectors, ensuring protection, durability and compliance with the required technical standards.

Yes, it is possible to personalise flame retardant softshell jackets with your company logo or visual identity, through embroidery, printing or screen printing. This personalisation must be requested by email, sending the product reference and the desired image. RAG Tailors offers this service with an estimated delivery time of between 10 and 15 working days, ensuring that, even with personalisation, the garment maintains all the safety and performance certifications expected of high-quality PPE.
