PPE Luggage & Bags

Yes, in many cases, PPE is permitted in your carry-on baggage, as long as the items comply with the airline and airport authority’s safety regulations. Certain types of PPE, such as gloves, lightweight helmets, goggles and masks, are generally not subject to restrictions, but there are exceptions – for example, sharp tools or electronic safety devices may be prohibited. It is essential to check the baggage rules applicable to your flight in advance. RAG Tailors recommends packing PPE in a neat and visible manner to facilitate security screening and avoid delays at security checkpoints.

Restrictions vary depending on the destination country and airline policy. On international flights, it is important to consider both carry-on and checked baggage rules. Some countries require customs declarations for certain types of Personal Protective Equipment, especially if they contain specific materials or electronics. In addition, there are weight and size limits for PPE baggage, which may incur additional costs. To ensure compliance with baggage regulations and avoid problems when boarding, please consult international guidelines and keep your PPE properly stored. RAG Tailors stresses the importance of travelling with certified equipment in good condition.

To properly pack your PPE, it is recommended to use sturdy cases and padded compartments to protect the equipment during transport. Fragile items such as safety glasses, sensors or lenses should be packed separately. Gloves, high visibility clothing and helmets should be folded or stacked in a way that saves space while maintaining the integrity of the material. It is important to label each item, especially when traveling with multiple types of Personal Protective Equipment. RAG Tailors suggests including a complete list of the PPE being transported, making it easier for customs inspection if necessary. Proper packaging increases the durability and safety of the materials in transit.

In some countries, yes. If your PPE contains electronic components, batteries, or regulated substances (such as specific filters), it may be necessary to declare it at customs. Equipment with a high commercial value may also be subject to declaration, to avoid fines or seizure. Always carry invoices or documents proving the professional purpose of the PPE. Clear documentation helps to prove that the equipment is for personal and professional use, making the process of entry into the destination faster and safer. RAG Tailors recommends keeping this information printed or in digital format accessible during the trip.

Depending on the weight and volume of your PPE, excess baggage fees may apply. While PPE does not typically have a specific fee, airlines do charge for items that are outside of the standard dimensions. If you are carrying bulky safety equipment, such as reinforced boots, harnesses or body armor, consider checking these items as special baggage. Some airlines have recently updated their baggage policies for professionals, allowing for pre-authorized check-ins. Check with your carrier before you travel and organize your items according to whether you are carrying carry-on or checked baggage. RAG Tailors recommends planning ahead to avoid surprises at check-in.

Safety procedures for transporting PPE include visual and electronic inspections at checkpoints. It is essential that PPE is clean, deactivated (if applicable) and clearly visible during X-ray. Materials that do not allow the rays to pass through may be subject to manual inspection. If you are transporting items such as helmets with electronic components, flashlights or tools included in protective clothing, inform security officers in advance. RAG Tailors products are manufactured according to the highest safety standards and put professional functionality first, allowing for more efficient and stable transport, even in contexts with strict security.

This depends on the travel insurance policy you have taken out. Some insurance policies include cover for professional baggage or technical equipment, while others only cover personal items. To ensure that your Personal Protective Equipment is protected in the event of loss, theft or damage, it is advisable to take out a policy with specific cover for PPE. Also check that the declared value covers the full cost of the equipment. We recommend that you photograph and keep your proof of purchase. As specialist PPE suppliers, at RAG Tailors we stress the importance of adequately protecting your equipment at every stage of your journey.
