Oil Spill PPE

The recommended PPE for responding to an oil spill varies depending on the type of substance and the environment in question. However, the most common types of PPE include impermeable protective suits, nitrile or PVC chemical gloves, sealed goggles, non-slip boots and respirators (in the case of harmful vapours). RAG Tailors offers professional protective clothing solutions made from hydrocarbon-resistant materials, ideal for teams responding to spills in industrial, maritime or fuel areas. The correct selection of PPE is crucial to ensure skin and respiratory system safety, reduce risks and improve clean-up effectiveness.

To clean up an oil spill safely, it is essential to use the appropriate PPE from the outset. You should isolate the area, apply suitable absorbent materials (such as granules or specific cloths), collect the residue with safe tools and store the remains in containers suitable for hazardous substances. Throughout the process, wear gloves, boots and approved waterproof clothing. In enclosed spaces, the use of a mask or respirator is recommended. The use of technical professional clothing, such as that provided by RAG Tailors, contributes to an effective and safe intervention, respecting the applicable safety standards.

The main difference lies in the resistance to the type of substance. PPE for oil spills is specifically designed to resist penetration and degradation by hydrocarbons, mineral oils and fuels. This includes impermeable suits made of PVC or high-density polyethylene, footwear with oil-resistant non-slip soles, and specific chemical gloves. PPE for other chemical substances may require resistance to acids or alkalis. At RAG Tailors, we help identify the appropriate PPE according to the environment and contaminant, ensuring efficiency and legal compliance in all situations.

After use in oil-contaminated environments, PPE should be cleaned or discarded, depending on the type of material. Non-disposable equipment, such as reinforced coveralls and safety footwear, should be washed with suitable products and dried thoroughly before storage. It is essential to store PPE in dry, ventilated places and away from sources of heat or direct sunlight that could degrade the materials. RAG Tailors recommends following the maintenance instructions provided with each product to prolong its durability and ensure maximum protection in future uses.

For rapid response situations to oil spills in industrial areas, a practical, durable and easy-to-do set of PPE is recommended. This includes waterproof coveralls with quick-release fastening, heavy-duty nitrile gloves, non-slip rubber boots and full-face goggles or visor. RAG Tailors offers technical garments with high chemical resistance and ergonomic adjustments to allow mobility and comfort during operation. Ready-to-wear emergency clothing allows you to reduce response times and increase operator safety.

PPE suitable for oil spill intervention must comply with a number of European safety standards. The main ones include EN 13034 (protection against liquid chemical splashes), EN 14605 (protective clothing against liquid chemicals), EN ISO 20345 (safety footwear), and EN 374 (protective gloves against chemicals). Additional certifications may be required depending on the sector. All products supplied by RAG Tailors are selected in accordance with these standards, ensuring a high standard of quality, performance and personal protection in hazardous environments.
